It's a shame that the LP auctions are increasingly dominated with bootleg LPs, mostly copies of official albums. Those LPs are cobbled together in Germany for next to nothing, without any form of quality control, purely for financial gain. But they are upgraded here to a true collector's item. Madness!

Here's an example: http: // auction. catawiki.nl/kavels/503017-nirvana-nevermind-on-white-vinyl

I am for free trade, but this kind of junk should not be sold on a legitimate and respectable site like catawiki to become. Proceeds will go to the wrong people, and there are plenty of crappy shitty pressings like this out there already.

But for the CataWiki Catalog those kinds of plates are interesting, provided that the distinguishing features are mentioned in the details. The Beatles also has many of them in the Catalog.

And for a budding collector it might be a nice start, probably cheaper than the original. Although, do beginners already pay 40 euros for a record?

The latter is perhaps the biggest problem; the assumption raised that these properties would have some market value. If those LPs are sold here for 7 euros each, I probably would not feel compelled to post this.

Catawiki simply attracts a mixed audience of connoisseurs and also less educated enthusiasts, and this last group gets the impression that they are really offering something special and gets carried away in a "biddingwar".

In my opinion, Catawiki should offer more "protection" than just the authenticity of the product confirm or disprove.

10,000 copies of this kind of bootlegs are not made, but only a few, 50 to 100 to 200 pieces, hence the rarity

With all due respect, but that is completely untrue. This certainly concerns production in numbers of thousands. In the past I have been in contact with one of the German "distributors" (a well-known in the trade world), and then managed to get quite a few details from him.

Even more than at the time, the European stock exchanges are overrun with these items. Rather, it is baseless claims such as this one that contribute to tempting bidders to over-bid.

But even if these objects come out in such low quantity, that doesn't detract from the fact. fact that the quality is substandard. It is just big business, where a small group of people earn a lot on an inferior product to which they do not have any copy rights.

By "this kind of bootleg" you meant that Nirvana counterfeit? I know where this comes from and that it is circulating everywhere. Only 200? Eh, neuh.

Anyway, I rest my case. Catawiki will benefit from keeping this trade alive. Or at least until the site gets big enough for the industry to actually get involved.

This remains a moot point

The problem is what is a bootleg, which mainly came on the market in the 1970s, these were indeed not legal recordings, but often unique and certainly worth collecting.

And therefore also a supplement for catawiki as a catalog.

Counterfeit, that's just stealing, only sometimes unrecognizable.

I also object to this, also within the auction and they are popping up more and more.

With great descriptions, and unfortunately in large editions.

Can't comment on the quality because I don't want it.

But the auctioneer should definitely pay attention to this.

And should refuse is my opinion.

No, as is clearly stated when you offer things: it is your lot, so you are responsible.

Fortunately not the auctioneers, they only know the things from photos.

So FTD, a movie and music download program, was also legal. It was only a platform, but the judge forbade it anyway.

Just because something is in the conditions does not mean that you can indemnify yourself.

The auctioneers are 'experts' in their area is stated, so they must be able to distinguish a fake?

I have already argued against including all fraud, counterfeiting and other junk (not even in the catalog) unless it is at least 10 years old (actually 20 years would be better).

But that is not the opinion of the majority, so no cigar.

what majority?

it is also stated in the example that it is not an official release, so the auctioneer can just judge this, there are more in it.

Unofficial Release

it is not a bootleg or a so-called white lp

The criticism has not been bothered much, because in the current record auction and the Beatles auction these unofficial (or as I have also read in some lot descriptions "unofficial") releases. Quite a shame ... Maybe an idea to turn it into a weekly themed auction? Perhaps more limited editions will be offered than there should be (& lt ;:

After entering the lot it was NOT possible to delete the photos of Silver Beatles! Hence the wrong link.

@ Dick52: I also find the record player signed by the Beatles astonishing: http://veiling.catawiki.nl/lots/532405-beatles-koffergramophone-player-signed-by-fab-four?previous=favorites

Leave the in the description cited by expert Azing Moltmaker, who believes they are authentic Beatles signatures, and the seller of the item "amazingbeatlesfan" is the same person ... How amazing is that?

I already knew that they were the same.

I did not see who was the supplier.

Reminds me of a butcher's proverb !

Very unfortunate, undermines credibility, very sad.

sometime in the 70 years packed with V & amp; D

To be fair, that in itself says nothing about the availability and value in 2014. There was a lot of confusion during that time, which is worth money today. This was also in a big pile for a few guilders at the Slegte.

To be honest, that in itself says nothing about the availability and value in 2014.

without a doubt that is sometimes.

but what I wanted to indicate, the description of lot 37

US-only image disc release

an image disc is quite different!

and twice the "same" item a light must go on, I think

And with lot 37 the description is just a blow in the air

Ware group 1:

LPs of yesteryear, old original, special items, relapses, limited Editions, box sets, aggregations, picture discs, promos, posters books about music, posters, gold records and other related gems . Rightholder will be reimbursed.

This is the main part of our weekly record auction. - Very good.

Department group 2:

Unofficial records, mostly: live, demos, interviews, radio broadcast recordings - from fans, for fans. Rightholder will not be reimbursed.

There is nothing wrong with this. The enthusiast has always had the original official records, and they are not enough for him. He wants to hear more.

Partial fancier prices are paid for these items.

Commodity group 3:

Counterfeits, forgeries. These records are increasingly offered in the weekly auction.

These records are made by vague groups.

As a current example: Led Zeppelin the first / The Doors - the first / Beatles - Butchercover.

In no time a scan is made and the cover goes into print, and a CD copy is sent as master to eastern bloc countries.

Mintage numbers from 100 pieces colored vinyl is preferred. (unit price approx. € 3.00)

You can even come up with and order your own title. “ We lost them in no time.” Offers change monthly. A real record mafia.

Usually these records come in wobbly sleeves, faded colors, fake labels like the original first pressings.

The records are offered for sale at record fairs. Purchase for the dealers: between € 5.00 and € 10.00, so sales between € 10.00 and € 20.00.

Wholesale and retail at the same time. VAT does not exist. Rightholder has it checked.

  • Offers on Ebay: One warning and you run the risk of banning. Prohibited to offer.
  • Discogs offers them / and are sometimes included in the discography
  • Amazon bans these products - here too there is a chance of exclusion.
  • BOL.com bans these products.
  • Wholesalers and distributors such as Clearspot, Sonic Rendezvous or Bertus Distribution do not offer these products.
  • Catawiki does offer these goods, while an expected sale price should be € 75.00. Don't!

The record companies, BREIN or publishing houses are not interested any more. They focus on the digital download market. Most employees don't even know what's in their catalog.

I think such a product should be banned from Catawiki. I don't like to be associated with these kinds of records and these practices. I have addressed several collectors and enthusiasts and they all spoke shame about this. Is not good for you. Also yields nix. - Fortunately, there are now also good initiatives such as the re-issue label "Music On Vinyl" or "Record store Day"

Auctioneers know which these are and why offered Catawiki is unworthy!
