Hi Kariene,

Right point. We will deal quickly. The idea is indeed to solve it as you sketch. This search option will then appear in the catalog, in the shops and in your collection.

At the moment it is possible to search for stamps via numerous entries: country, theme, use type, type, designers, perforation etc.

All praise for this large number of access points. But searching for the entry "catalog number" - very essential for stamps - is missing! How is that possible: a catalog in which you cannot search by number ?

And then it should also be possible to first choose the desired catalog: NVPH, Michel, Yvert, Scott etc.

Kariene

There is still a lot to happen in the field of export. I think this is a good point and will include it in my consultation with René and Marco.

Mmmm, armed forces are indeed a possibility. I can also introduce all kinds of things in this. My thematic collection of Cavalry consists of several hundred stamps.

But in other words: can I somehow make a distinction within my own collections? When I want to accommodate multiple themes in this, I get one large container where everything is mixed up. Also when I want to export something as a (missing) list, the program copies everything into 1 excel file.

@HAKO

The NVPH numbers are of course in the database. I will ask Marco to adjust this for the missing list. Incidentally, one will soon be added for many countries.

By creating a search list you will automatically receive a message when stamps from your search list are offered. To be honest, the time-consuming and difficult searching on other sales platforms becomes a bit redundant ... there is already a lot on offer on Catawiki, especially from the Netherlands ...

Have only recently been a member. Maybe the question has been answered someday. I have created a search list, but it now contains the Michel numbers, I don't see any possibility to change them to NVPH numbers. Very difficult if you want to search on a marketplace or e-bay, for example.

So join Stamp-swap's request to have a choice between both numbers (sorting)

May, you know. But take a look at www.nvph.nl for a dealer near you, who will often be able to see at a glance if something is interesting or not. My experience is that in many cases 'boxes' with stamps do not contain expensive stamps. Usually these are carefully stored in a preprint or insert album. In general, collections that are composed of warriors (from the mail) and on which real money has never been spent are not worth that much. If you want to sell the stamps and you like to put some work into them, you can of course offer them on Catawiki.

The point is that I don't want to see the themes fragmented too much. The risk is that they will often not be added at a lower level, so that they will only be partially visible. Or that they will be missing at a higher level. Cavalry will now be under Armed Forces. If we add that, we will also have to subtheme other armed forces components. Incidentally, was already a similar request for "Marine". This also means that the stamps with the Cavalry theme must invariably also remain under the Armed Forces.

There is also a certain imbalance. Can you tell me how many stamps it is very roughly estimated? And do you want to add these themes to the existing database yourself?

Hello everyone,

During our move a few weeks ago, I came across a box of stamps that I inherited. I completely forgot about this one.

I would like to know what I actually "have in my hands".
Can anyone give me some guidance on where to get or search for info?

Thanks in advance!
Laura

I will come back to the parcel postage for a moment. There is a difference with parcel stamps because these stamps were not issued by the postal service, but by a trading company. They are also different in appearance than, for example, the Dutch parcel stamps.

Maybe the Scandinavia specialists can shed their light on this ..

In the future we may indeed have to make main species and subspecies, but in such a way that it remains easily searchable internationally.

Incidentally, the same applies to the Dutch safe stamps, which are also not issued by the postal service.

Certainly with the aim of liberalization, in the future we will also have to mention the 'publisher' in addition to the 'country'!

@ ralphi

Thank you for your comprehensive and constructive post. Regarding the ik quality: This proposal has been around for a while, and actually overrides the stamp category. The difference is that for most objects the quality is 'gradual' (good, less, bad) and for stamps it is a different condition (mint / unused versus used)

With regard to the relationship between series and stamps, it is now the case that we already establish a relationship with the numbering. a series 86-0 consists of stamps 86-1, 86-2 etc. By clicking on details of the stamp on the series name you will also see all stamps of this series. By expanding the search options with free search, you will also be able to view them more easily together.

By default, you only see main numbers in the gallery. But if you reconfirm 'kind' you will also see the varieties between the stamps. (as long as they are correctly numbered). I see that this could be made clearer by adding the option 'All types' in this list. I will ask Marco to change this. Now you just have to know ...

There used to be a clear difference between blocks and sheets. This was even sharply defined in the NVPH and except for the historical mistake with the legion of "blocks" it was also correct.

For example, sheets in which the stamps form a continuous representation, that distinction has become less clear. Also by putting 10 different stamps in 1 sheet (actually due to a changed distribution, whereby the large sheets of 50 and 100 have been replaced) the difference has become more blurred. You could also call it a block - but it was never issued / intended as such, and where do you lay the boundary - a sheet with 50 different stamps flags USA would logically also be a block ...

Doubt cases are now the sheets that are designed in such a way that you could also consider them as a block.

Different catalogs deal with it differently (eg animal skin in the Netherlands). I labeled them block / sheet to prevent collectors from finding them where they expected them to be.

We could discuss for a long time about types and types of use - partly I agree with you, for example, the roller-serrated stamps are actually just a perforation variant. But they have had a special status in the Dutch catalogs for 70 years and their appearance (just like 1-sided imperforated stamps) was related to the distribution form. Pakke-postage could probably indeed be covered by parcel postage, these kinds of differences are caused by merging different CD-ROM files.

The point with the summer stamps etc. from booklets is indeed that until a few years ago they appeared twice and under two different numbers in the NVPH catalog and also appear in both the regular and the combination preprint albums. If you have such a collection complete, you want to be able to import it in 1 go with bulk input. That is no longer possible if you no longer link them to 'combinations'. We may be able to make this an 'alias' in the future, but that is up to the programmers.

Referring to an article has already been discussed, we have very good plans for this.

You may also want to become an administrator to further improve the stamps section.

First of all, compliments for this site and the stamp section. On a few points I see some possibilities to make things even better (but maybe others see it completely differently?):

  • the search lists are very useful, but it would be ideal if you would only receive an email message if the stamp is for sale in the desired condition (MNH, mint hinged or used) stamps are for sale)
  • it would be useful to see the stamps from the series displayed for series and for individual stamps the variants on those stamps. The latter in particular makes searching a lot easier and makes it easy to quickly see an overview of all variants of a stamp (as you can quickly see in an 'old-fashioned' paper catalog).
  • I find the chosen classification for user type and type not always consistent and sometimes it is difficult to determine where an item should fall (even when you are searching). Consider, for example, the types of "Blokje", "Velletje" and "Blokje / Velletje". Also, I think a reason for double entries.

For usage type I would not expect: machine (after all, type, and already included there), roller teeth (type, or even falling under the type of perforation variant) and surcharge (surcharge stamps I would really look for under postage stamps). Also with 'occupation' I ask myself whether this is no longer a species. I would place 'Pakke-porto' under the usage type 'Parcel stamp', possibly with 'pakke-porto' as the type. You could also consider this with the 'safe stamps'.

For species it would be ideal if a species would fall under 1 main species. Think of the stamp booklets, with various subcategories for machine booklets and ticket booklets and as many varieties. I would choose one type for cubes and sheets. The difference here is simply too unclear. Here too I regularly see double entries and searching is also not easier. Also with varieties, a main species with subspecies might be better. Or even just the main species. If you want a stamp with phosphorus bar or without phosphorus on plain paper as a variety or a stamp without watermark, you could just choose paper variety.

In any case, it seems useful to me that each use type and type is provided with a description, so that it is clear to everyone what is meant by it. I would like to make a move for that, if necessary.
  • Stamps from booklets that are imperfect on one or more sides - I would rather look for perforation variety if I were not a user of the NVPH catalog. In fact no combination, but a different perforation ... Maybe also link to the type of perforation variant?
  • It would be nice if for series and individual stamps it would be possible to refer with a link to an article with more information about the stamp or series in question.
  • Dutch summer stamps from stamp booklets seem (deliberately?) To be included twice because they are double in the NVPH catalog. Wouldn't it make more sense to list the stamps just once and include them in two categories? Now you will see the same stamp twice with a different value and if you choose one of the 2 you will also see part of the offer.

Just some points that seem useful to me. If more people feel that way, maybe something that can be done with?

Perhaps we will expand it later in line with local customs. But combinations in general do not seem desirable to me for reasons that both Postmaster and I put forward. I will also look in particular at Sweden, which is of course traditionally the booklet country and there the pairs left / right or bottom / top imperforated are also collected there.

But I don't think we should do it for now. They are derivatives of the regular stamps, and most non-adhesive modern stamps are part of many possible combinations.

It leads to an excessive extrapolation that no one is waiting for, the boundaries are difficult (also tabs - also combinations of 5, horizontal, vertical or maybe 5x5) and the next request are blocks of 4, 6 or 9, or strips of the same stamp, or corner blocks, stamps with sheet edge markings, etc. that will sometimes be collected by someone.

Those who want to include them in their collection or shop are of course free to do so.

I have been working intensively with the Michel for 40 years, but I cannot remember ever looking up a combination for myself or a customer. Incidentally, Michel limits himself in the Netherlands to the combinations from stamp booklets

For the Dutch collector, the combinations from booklets are an exception, because they have been included in the NVPH from the beginning and preprint albums are also published for them. Incidentally, also applies to Belgium

With regard to the records, it could be limited to main numbers from the catalog (as a starting point). There is indeed a wide potential, however, it depends on the Catawiki members to what extent this part will be filled.

Depending on the interest, it can increase. In Germany, the Michel does give numbers to the combinations (especially the GDR). So the gathering area will not be entirely that strange. Indeed, you hardly see this as a collective item in the Dutch catalogs.

I'll look at this. But it does have some complications. For example, we do have the term 'couples'. In addition, the current emission policy provides an infinite series of combinations. Take a sheet with 50 different stamps from the USA. Perhaps there is a mathematician who can calculate how many combinations of 1x2, 1x3, ditto vertical, blocks of 4, etc. can be made from this. Should there be a few hundred (even think against a thousand ??) and I am not so in favor .. this is also very confusing. Almost all countries nowadays issue stamps with 10 different stamps, each sheet of 10 (I can still calculate that) yields 27 different combinations (1 to 4 stamps) .. But 'the fence is really off the dam then'. are also numerous sheets with 20, 25 or 50 different stamps ... And you have to treat them equally ...

Collectors can duplicate an object and modify it for their own collection.

For the rest, we have to think about it first ... you should also include all plate position pairs 1st issue ...

Have entered combinations of stamps (as a combination), but these were rejected. The term combination is (I understood) limited to combinations from stamp booklets. Would rather expect two variants here (combination pb and combination other).

In my opinion, if the "combinations" in Catawiki are limited by catalog-related combinations, the term collectors' catalog is compromised and seems to me to be more trade-related.

Is this an item for multiple collectors?

For Belgium, the OCB numbering will become the specific 'local' numbering. We already have a conversion list up to and including 2004. It requires some adjustments in the display, so it will take a while for these numbers to appear.

It becomes possible to indicate local catalog numbers. NVPH is such a numbering of the Dutch catalog in this case.

We consider introducing exchanges in sections where buying and selling is not or hardly ever common, such as for tea bags.
