The first issue of Arts en Auto appeared on January 5, 1935. Until March 2009, 'Arts en Auto' appears every two weeks, with the exception of the period 1937 to 1940, in which 'Arts en Auto' appears every four weeks. From March 2009, the magazine will appear twelve times a year.

When choosing topics, the editors focus on healthcare in general and also pay a lot of attention to trends and developments in healthcare. Arts en Auto is the monthly magazine that members of the VvAA receive.

The readership of Arts en Auto consists not only of doctors (general practitioners, medical specialists, dentists, pharmacists and veterinarians) but also of physiotherapists, paramedics, anesthesiologists, nurses, dental hygienists, speech therapists and students. In addition, many are familiar with the magazine from the reading table in doctors' waiting rooms.
