Pechvogel (French: Strapontin) is a Belgian comic series about a taxi driver, drawn by Berck (Arthur Berckmans) and written by René Goscinny and Jacques Acar. It was originally published in Tintin/Tintin magazine. More

The stories are about taxi driver Pechvogel, who gets involved in all kinds of adventures. Especially in the first, short stories, he always gets the short end of the stick. In the later, long adventures he is ultimately the hero of the story.

Pechvogel grew up on a farm. He is a taxi driver and loves his job. However, circumstances often lead him to help people in difficulties, so he does not hesitate to accept trips to distant countries where he experiences many humorous adventures. As a result, certain customers become his friends.

Miss Thompson is one of those eccentric English customers who convinces Pechvogel to take her to very distant places, such as the kingdom of Patatah (located between India and Burma). She is friends with the Maharaja of Patatah.

Unlucky is afraid of ghosts or wild animals, but proves to be brave when confronted by human opponents.

The Dutch name Pechvogel was invented by the cartoonist Berck. The French name Strapontin is a slightly later discovery by Goscinny. (A strapontin is an extra folding seat in a taxi).

A total of 19 short and 14 long stories have been published. All short stories are based on a script by René Goscinny.
All drawings are by Berck with René Goscinny (scénario V1-V9) and Jacques Acar (scénario V10-V14).

De verhalen gaan over taxichauffeur Pechvogel, die verzeild raakt in allerlei avonturen. Vooral in de eerste, korte verhaaltjes trekt hij daarbij steevast aan het kortste eind. In de latere, lange avonturen is hij uiteindelijk de held van het verhaal.

Pechvogel is opgegroeid op een boerderij. Hij is taxichauffeur en houdt van zijn werk. De omstandigheden brengen hem er echter vaak toe mensen in moeilijkheden te helpen, zo aarzelt hij niet om reizen naar verre landen te accepteren waar hij vele humoristische avonturen beleefd. Daardoor worden bepaalde klanten zijn vrienden.

Miss Thompson is zo’n excentrieke Engelse klant, die Pechvogel zover krijgt haar mee te nemen naar zeer verre oorden, zoals het koninkrijk Patatah (gelegen tussen India en Birma). Ze is bevriend met de maharadja van Patatah.

Pechvogel is bang voor geesten of wilde dieren, maar blijkt dapper te zijn wanneer hij wordt geconfronteerd met menselijke tegenstanders.

De Nederlandse naam Pechvogel is bedacht door de tekenaar Berck De Franse naam Strapontin is een iets latere vondst van Goscinny. (Een strapontin is een extra klapstoeltje in een taxi).
