Ken Follett was born the son of Martin and Veenie Follett. He lived in a middle-class family. When he was 10 years old his family moved to London. Follet's family was strict Christian and forbade him to watch movies and television. As a result, Follett developed an interest in books at a young age. In 1967 Follett was admitted to University College London where he studied philosophy. After graduating in 1970, Follett took a short course as a journalist and spent three years working in Cardiff for the "South Wales Echo". He then returned to London where he became a journalist for the Evening Standard. However, he did not find the work challenging enough. Therefore, he took a job as a manager at the publishing house "Everest Books". Around this time, he started writing stories, although he did this as a hobby at first.
