De invloedrijke Amerikaanse producer, songschrijver, multi-instrumentalist en zanger Prince werd in juni 1958 geboren als Prince Rogers Nelson in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Prince werd door zijn vader, een pianist, vernoemd naar de muzikant Prince Roger. Prince groeide echter op bij de familie Anderson, waar hij alle ruimte kreeg om zijn muzikale kwaliteiten te ontwikkelen. Hij leerde op vroege leeftijd gitaar en piano spelen en schreef ook al vroeg zijn eerste eigen nummers.
