In the rolling landscape of Walloon Brabant, along the tranquil banks of the Great Gete, lies the village of Jauchelette. Today it is part of Jodoigne, but until 1977 it was an independent municipality. The name of the village still bears the echo of the nearby Geten or Jauche, to which it owes its origins.

Anyone walking through Jauchelette will soon notice that the past is never far away here. In the center of the village stands the Church of Saint Gertrude, the oldest parts of which date back to 1220. Over the centuries, the building grew and changed along with its community, with an expansion in the 19th century and a thorough restoration in 1926. The church still forms a recognizable anchor point in the village landscape.

Just outside the center lies the former Abbey of La Ramée, once a vibrant Cistercian abbey founded in 1216. Although religious life has disappeared there, the site continues to impress. The large farmhouse, in particular, which has withstood the test of time, provides a good idea of the former size and significance of the estate.

The Great Gete itself plays a silent leading role in the landscape. Along the river lie various old mills that recall a time when water power was indispensable. The Moulin de La Ramée, once connected to the abbey, is a fine example of this. Further downstream, you will also find the Moulin Fontaine and the Moulin Maka, each with its own history and technology.

Jauchelette is not a place of great hustle and bustle, but that is precisely what makes it special. It is a village where history, nature, and tranquility flow seamlessly into one another.
