Schulze has also worked under the pseudonym Richard Wahnfried . He is a founding member of the electronic rock band "Ash Ra Tempel" and played in "Tangerine Dream" before embarking on a solo career, producing more than 40 albums (over 110 CDs in total) in over 30 years.

Schulze learned to play classical guitar, then was bass guitarist in a skiffle group and guitarist in a rock group. He studied philology and composition at Humboldt University. In 1967 he became a drummer with the trio "Psy Free". From 1969 he was a drummer in "Tangerine Dream" and he participates in the debut album "Electronic meditation", which was released in 1970.

That same year he left "Tangerine Dream" to form a new group with Manuel Göttsching under the name "Ash Ra Tempel". The debut album of this new formation is also called "Ash Ra Tempel". In 1971 Schulze also left this band after making the first album. This time he continued as a solo artist. In 1972 his first solo album was released under the title Irrlicht .

As a solo artist, Klaus has had a very successful and productive career. He has over 40 albums to his name and is still active today. After Irrlicht , popular works include Moondawn (1976), Dune (1979), Dreams (1986), Miditerranean Pads (1990) and the double album In Blue (1995). The latter contains a long recording with an electric guitar, played by his Ash Ra Tempel friend Manuel Göttsching.

His most recent studio album is called Privée and is dated February 2016.
