The Implementation Force (IFOR) was a NATO-led peacekeeping force that enforced the Dayton Treaty in Bosnia and Herzegovina after the Bosnian War. More

IFOR was launched on 20 December 1995 as the successor to the UN peacekeeping force UNPROFOR. The peace force was mandated by Security Council resolution 1031 and was to ensure compliance with the ceasefire and respect for the border between the Serb and Muslim-Croat entities by both sides. Whereas UNPROFOR had a very limited mandate and could only act if it was attacked itself, IFOR had a much broader mandate to intervene by force if necessary if hostilities broke out again. UNPROFOR is also known as "blue operation" (from the UN colour), while IFOR (and later also SFOR) are known as "green operations" ("green" in the sense of "military, robust").

On 20 December 1996, IFOR was converted into a smaller stabilization force, SFOR, which was also led by NATO.

IFOR's headquarters was located in Sarajevo and was headed by an American general.
