We must acknowledge the experimental nature of the comic, a characteristic he maintains in various other publications and which is clearly evident here. He supplements his Ada panels with short texts in the spaces between them, the margins. He places them beneath the panels, which does not disrupt the transitional and elliptical functions of this empty space. These words appear to stand outside the story. That is to say, they do not belong to the story or its development. The author offers a sharp perspective on the unfolding events. The technique is unusual, but offers an additional option for the possible narrative techniques of comics.

As for the artwork: Altan follows a very personal path. Against relatively realistic backgrounds, he draws caricatured characters with trunk-like noses. (Is this a reference to the Belgian "big nose" style?) He uses a sparse line work for his characters. Hair, clothing, and accessories are drawn without much detail. The pen strokes do not strive for perfection; the lines are irregular. The backgrounds are more detailed, but also leave sufficient room for flat black ink areas to simplify the backgrounds. Because the drawing is in black and white.

Some might not appreciate this style, but the artist's consistency deserves recognition. It is HIS style; it is how he expresses himself.

The story is full of colonial clichés, undoubtedly intended to denounce European culture of the 1930s and 40s and the ubiquitous racism. It completely lacks classic positive figures. Even the colonized are just as opportunistic and greedy as their oppressors.

There is a film adaptation of the comic, starring Victoria Abril, Richard Bohringer, and Bernard Blier.

We moeten het experimentele karakter van de strip erkennen, een kenmerk dat hij in verschillende andere publicaties handhaaft en dat hier duidelijk naar voren komt. Hij vult zijn Ada-panelen namelijk aan met korte teksten in de tussenruimtes, de marges. Hij plaatst ze onder de panelen, wat de overgangs- en elliptische functies van deze lege ruimte niet verstoort. Deze woorden lijken buiten het verhaal te staan. Dat wil zeggen, ze behoren niet tot het verhaal of de ontwikkeling ervan. De auteur biedt een scherp perspectief op de zich ontvouwende gebeurtenissen. Wat betreft het tekenwerk: Altan bewandelt een zeer persoonlijk pad. Tegen relatief realistische achtergronden tekent hij karikaturale personages met slurfachtige neuzen.
