Charles Chaplin was een Engelse acteur, regisseur, scenario schrijver, editor, producer, composer en auteur. Begonnen als acteur bij Fred Karno, later op vaudeville in 1914 zijn filmdebuut gemaakt in de komische short ''Making a Living''. Beter bekend als Charlie Chaplin of The Little Tramp, de naam van het karakter dat Chaplin speelde. Richtte samen met Douglas Fairbanks, Mary Pickford en D.W. Griffith de filmmaatschappij United Artist op.
