Witbier is top-fermented beer that is not only brewed with barley malt, but also with wheat (malt) and sometimes also with oats. The beer is usually unfiltered and therefore cloudy and the alcohol percentage is usually between 5 and 6 percent.

Today, there are three main categories of wheat beer:

Belgian white beer, such as van Hoegaarden,
Berliner Weisse from Berlin,
South German Weizenbier or Weißbier.

This section includes non-German white beers.
