Scott Alexander Young was a Canadian writer and journalist. He was the father of musician Neil Young.

Scott Young was the son of pharmacist Percy Andrew Young and schoolteacher Jean Ferguson Paterson. He had a brother (Bob) and a sister (Dorothy). Young spent his early years in Glenboro, where his father owned his own drugstore. In 1926, the family moved to Winnipeg. His father left the family in 1931. Young then spent part of his childhood with relatives, but returned to his mother after a few years. In Winnipeg, Young played ice hockey.

Scott Young was eighteen years old when he got a job at the daily Winnipeg Free Press in 1936. In 1941 he moved to Toronto to work for "The Canadian Press". He covered the Second World War in England before serving in the Royal Canadian Navy in 1944 and 1945. After the war, he returned to Canada and continued his work for "The Canadian Press". During this period he wrote about curling and hockey. From 1945 to 1948 he also worked for the weekly magazine "Maclean's". His short stories were first published in 1948, in "Collier's", the "Saturday Evening Post" and "Ladies Home Journal". Young wrote three children's books about his experiences as a young ice hockey player in Winnipeg, with "Scrubs on Skates" (1952) as the first volume. In 1957 he became a columnist for "The Globe and Mail". From 1969 to 1971, he was a sports editor and columnist for "The Toronto Telegram". His journalism career ended in 1980.

In 1988, Young was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
