Preiser

The company Preiser is located in Steinsfeld near Rothenburg in Germany. It is a family business that started in 1949 under the leadership of Paul M. Preiser. He died in 1970 and was succeeded by his son Horst Preiser. Preiser started making wooden figures in 0, H0 and TT. The figures were cut out with an electric jigsaw, then chiseled into shape and sanded by hand. Then a hole was drilled right through the shoulders for the arms. They consisted of a thick wire that made the arms flexible. Then came painting. It provided work for about 100 people, many of whom worked from home. As labor costs rose, painting was moved to India. Because the Indian partner was unable to deliver on time, painting was moved to Mauritius in 1980. There it offers work to approx. 250 women.
The wooden figures remained in production until 1960, but plastic figures were also produced in the mid-1950s. This was done by the Hausser company in Neustadt near Coburg. When that company went bankrupt around 1985, Preiser bought one of their buildings and the machines.
In the years that followed, the range was expanded with scale N and Z figures, horse and carriages, fire engines (H0) and circus wagons (H0). Preiser still produces, but now led by Jürgen, Horst Preiser's son. (2016).

Wooden figures remained in production until 1960 but halfway the 50s plastic figures were already produced. This was executed a firm named Hauser in Neustadt near Coburg. When Hauser went bankrupt in the mid-80s, Preiser bought one of their buildings and the machines.
In the following years the assortment was increased with figures in N and Z scales, horse drawn wagons, fire-fighting equipment (H0) and circus wagons (H0). Preiser is still producing, but now Jürgen the son of Horst Preiser in charge. (2016).
