He is best known for the series of post-apocalyptic science fiction comic strips Simon van de Rivier , which appeared in the weekly magazine Tintin in the 1970s and later also in album form. With screenwriter Greg he also made De Sage of the Grizzly and The Island of Arroyoka (both published in 1970).

Auclair also created two comic novels called 'He ' and the comic novel 'Bran Ruz' for Casterman. He could not finish the last part of 'He' before his death and contains a few pages drawn by Jacques Tardi and Jean-Claude Mézières.
