Frederick Forsyth is an English writer. He was born in Great Britain in Ashford, Kent. He was placed at Tonbridge School in England, a boarding school that is part of the Etongroup. After Tonbridge, Forsyth studied at the University of Granada in Spain. After five months he gave up his studies and returned to England. In May 1956, at the age of 19, he joined the RAF as one of its youngest pilots. In 1958 he retired and became a journalist with the Eastern Daily Press in Norfolk.

In 1961 he joined Reuters, first in Paris and later in Eastern Europe. In 1965 he returned to England and became a reporter for the BBC. Forsyth stayed in Biafra from July to September 1967, reporting the war for his employer. He then returned to working as a freelance correspondent, reporting war conflicts for the Eastern Daily Press, Evening Standard, and Time magazine. He incorporated his experience with the conflict in Biafra in his book “The Biafra story” that appeared in 1969.
