Dailuaine

The Dailuaine distillery was founded in 1852 by William Mackenzie. After his death, the distillery was leased to James Fleming. Fleming was an Aberlour banker. Together with William Mackenzie's son, he founded Mackenzie and Company.

In 1884 the distillery was renovated and enlarged to become one of the largest distilleries in the Highlands.

The company went through some name changes at the end of the 19th; Dailuaine-Glenlivet Distillery Ltd., Dailuaine-Glenlivet and Talisker Distillery Ltd. and finally Dailuaine-Talisker Distilleries Ltd.

After the death of Thomas Mackenzie in 1915, the company was sold to John Dewar & Sons, John Walker & Sons and James Buchanan & Co.

After a fire in 1917 and a forced closure, the company was sold to Distillers Company Limited (DCL) in 1925.

In 1960 the distillery undergoes another renovation and expansion; from 4 to 6 boilers.

Since 1983, the malt is no longer produced in-house but imported.

In 1987, Dailuaine comes into the hands of United Distillers (UD).
