Stamps from Hungary

Hungary is a country in Central Europe. In 1867, the Austrian Empire was transformed into the Dual Kingdom of Austria-Hungary. The Austrian territories (Cisleithania) and the Hungarian territories (Transleithania) became separate postal areas, but Hungary used Austrian stamps until 1871. In 1918, after World War I, the Dual Kingdom of Austria-Hungary fell apart. Hungary ceded Transylvania to Romania, Slovakia united with the Czech Republic to form Czechoslovakia, and Croatia-Slavonia united with Slovenia, Dalmatia, and Bosnia-Herzegovina to form the State of Slovenes, Croats, and Serbs. The remaining part of Transleithania became the People's Republic of Hungary. In 1919, Hungary briefly became a Soviet republic (council republic) and then briefly a republic. In 1920, Hungary became a kingdom again. At the end of World War II, in 1944, Hungary was occupied by the German Reich and in 1945 it was liberated by the Soviet Union. In 1946 Hungary officially became a republic again. From 1949 to 1989 Hungary was a People's Republic and then again a republic. On 1 May 2004 Hungary became a new member state of the European Union. On this occasion the stamps were issued with Last Dodo numbers. #[1654465][51], #[5940659][52] and #[3769851][53].
