In 1991, Paul "Guigsy" McGuigan (bass guitar), Paul "Bonehead" Arthurs (guitar), Tony McCarroll (drums) and Liam Gallagher (vocals) formed the band The Rain . They began gigging around Manchester and soon changed the name of their band to Oasis . Noel Gallagher watched his brother at an Oasis gig and suggested that he become the band's guitarist and songwriter. With Noel's songs under their belt, the band decided to pursue commercial success.

The band started to perform more and more, with the confidence of a record deal in the back of their minds. Eventually, in May 1993, they were discovered in Glasgow by Alan McGee (of Creation Records) and a few days later they signed their first record deal.
