Haddada Surmamoto (Hirooaoa Dakaniman) is a humorous comic strip by Jo-El Azara (script by Vicq), about a little Ronin and his companion who have set themselves the task of clearing the Japanese roads of bandits, highwaymen and all kinds of unruly people. More

The ronin (A samurai without a master) Haddada Surmamoto (Hirooaoa Dakaniman) and his fellow traveler, Yamamoto Kifépoum, wander around looking for highwaymen.
Wild robbers, fierce bandits and other jokers, Haddada and Yamamoto make short work of them in a humorous atmosphere.

Jo-El Azara, pseudonym of Joseph Franz Hedwig Loeckx (1937-2023), who collaborated with various magazines, delivered this charming comic strip for the magazine Spirou in 1967; it would have just as short a life as his other creations "Evariste Confus" in 1964 for the magazine Tintin, "Mayflower", a humorous western for the magazine Pilote in 1965 or Gaëtan de Châteaubleu for Tintin in 1967... only his star comic strip Taka Takata survived in Tintin.

Azara uses the same concept as Gaëtan de Châteaubleu, namely a precise historical context; after the French musketeers, he explores feudal Japan, but in a postcard Japan where he makes a cheerful samurai parody with his little hero Haddada Surmamoto (Hirooaoa Dakaniman), a ronin and his companion Yamamoto Kifépoum, an ex-sumo wrestler. Azara sketches a classic Japanese setting, and just like in Taka Takata, he draws beautiful, flowery landscapes with pine trees and pagodas with great freshness and poetry. Even if the success is less striking than in Taka Takata, the potential of this period is well used, with a slightly more childish humour because it was intended for the readers of Spirou/Robbedoe.

In addition to the long story (30 pages), a short story was published; Haddada Surmamoto et le chevaucheur du néant, in 1968 in Robbedoes/Spirou no. 1592, of 6 pages.

The 1976 edition by Michel Albin (36 pages) was published in black and white and unfortunately lacks the beautiful coloring and side strips of this series in the weekly magazine Robbedoes no. 1545 - 1557, 1967/68.

Publisher Nooitgedacht published the story in the Caleidoscoop series, 1976, under the title Yaba-Dap.
Haddada Surmamoto is called Hirooaoa Dakaniman in the Dutch translation.

Azara schetst een klassieke Japans decor, en net als in Taka Takata tekent hij fraaie, bloemrijke landschappen met pijnbomen en pagodes met een grote frisheid en poëzie. Ook al is het succes minder opvallend dan bij Taka Takata, het potentieel van deze periode wordt goed benut, met een iets meer kinderlijke humor omdat het bedoeld was voor de lezers van Robbedoes/Spirou.

Naast het lange verhaal (30 pagina’s) verscheen er nog een kort verhaal; Haddada Surmamoto et le chevaucheur du néant, in 1968 in Robbedoes/Spirou nr. 1592, van 6 pagina’s.

De uitgave van Michel Albin 1976 (36 pagina's), is gepubliceerd in zwart-wit en mist helaas de prachtige inkleuring en de zij-stroken van deze serie in het weekblad Robbedoes nr. 1545 - 1557, 1967/68.

Uitgeverij Nooitgedacht gaf het verhaal uit in de Caleidoscoop-reeks, 1976, onder de titel Yaba-Dap.

Haddada Surmamoto heet in de Nederlandse vertaling Hirooaoa Dakaniman.
