Peco

Peco is the umbrella name for Pritchard Patent Product Company Ltd, Peco Publications & Publicity Ltd and Pecorama. The latter part is a tourist attraction at the factory with several model railways on display and a 1.6 km line (Beer Heights Light Railway) with a track gauge of 184 mm. The company is also the publisher of the monthly magazines Railway Modeller and Continental Modeller.
Peco was founded in 1946 by Sidney C. Pritchard. Based initially in Branscombe, then Seaton and then Beer, all in Devon. It started with couplings for Hornby and Trix according to its own patent, and one-piece metal wheelsets that did not cause a short circuit (Insulaxle). Over the years, all kinds of supplies for the model railroad have been released in all scales. Ratio was taken over but continued to exist under its own name. However, Peco is best known for its rails. Early on, all parts were available for DIY rails and switches. A long development process eventually resulted in the world-famous ready-made flexible rail for all track widths. Passenger cars were from Trix but were sold as a Peco product. H0 narrow gauge models were later released. In 2007, the first ready-to-run locomotive developed for track N appeared on track N. Peco still exists (2016).

Peco is the umbrella organization of Pritchard Patent Product Company Ltd, Peco Publications & Publicity Ltd and Pecorama. The latter is a tourist attraction near the factory with several model railway layouts and a narrow gauge (184 mm) railway line of 1.6 kms long. Moreover the company is publisher of the monthly magazines Railway Modeller and Continental Modeller.
In 1946 Peco was founded by Sidnet C. Pritchard. Initially located in Branscombe, next in Seaton and thereafter in Beer, all in Devon. He started with couplers for Hornby and Trix according to his own patents, and one piece metal wheel sets which did not cause a shortcut (Insulaxle). In the course of years all kinds of equipment for the model railway have been released for all scales. Ratio was incorporated but kept their name. However, Peco is most known for their track. Rather early all parts for the construction of track and points became available. After a long development process world's wellknown ready to use flexible track for all gauges was created. In 1965 the first kit for an N locomotive on an Arnold chassis was released and in 1966 the first RTR goods wagon. Passenger coaches came from Trix but were sold as Peco products. Later came H0 narrow gauge models as well. In 2007 the first under own management designed N gauge RTR locomotive was presented. Peco is still in business today (2016).
