5th edition. For 3rd grade. About little boy Njoka (swift snake) in Africa, in a village in Uganda with a sorcerer (medicine man) who fools the villagers and incites them against white people. Until it turns out that the wizard is lying and a white missionary can heal people and the black population is willing and able to help. (Note: idea of the mission at the time) At the end of the story, Njoka is old, sick and no longer a 'quick snake'. Just before his death he is baptized by Father (and thus saved for OL Lord and heaven). With many beautiful black and white illustrations by Father B. Reith (regular illustrator at RK Boys Orphanage). The story takes place in the Witte-Pater-Missie Uganda. (first edition from 1923)
