Details

Christiaensen was a Belgian toy store chain. The chain had more than 30 branches across the country. The logo of the chain consisted of a stylized toucan in the colors blue, red and green. The company was founded in 1917. In 1982 the chain became part of the GIB Group. In 1998 the Limburg entrepreneur Marc Collet took over Christiaensen. He managed nine stores himself, 25 others were run by franchisees. In 2004, the Dutch company Blokker, which already controlled the Bart Smit and Maxi Toys chains, took over the name Christiaensen and thus strengthened its grip on the Belgian toy market. The franchise stores continued to be operated independently under license. Later in the year, the first points of sale and one of the independent stores were given the trade name 'Bart Smit'. Finally, in March 2005, the other 24 Christiaensens disappeared. Seventeen stores continued as Intertoys, three went to competitor Top 1 Toys, one store continued under its own name and the others ceased operations.
