Original editorial cartoon done on board in ink and crayon, 1963, published in the Brockton Enterprise, shows Soviet leader Khrushchev dancing with Yugoslav leader Tito while Uncle Sam, the “wallflower”, looks on. Khrushchev had just concluded a 15-day visit to Yugoslavia, the climax to a gradual rapprochement between the two countries, during which Tito had reaffirmed his commitment to the ‘international revolutionary workers’ movement’ and a close relationship with Moscow. Tito was always adept at steering a course between east and west and this apparent shift in allegiance did not last long - Yugoslavia remained relatively independent of the Soviet bloc and maintained normal relations with Western Europe and the USA. Board size 37.5 x 30.5 cm, image size 32.5 x 26 cm, signed and dated 9/3/63 lower right, caption in pencil in upper border. In very good condition.
