Details

danced by The Dolly Sisters, theory by Professeur Robert. Prix 6 Fr net. The Black Bottom was a dance that came from America and was very popular in 1926, especially in Paris. It was a kind of Charleston, and the (very temporary) successor of the Cake-walk *(around 1900), the Shimmy and the Fox. In the Netherlands it was called the mud dance, after the movements of the legs that are pulled out of the mud (see also illustration on cover). It was supposed to be a kind of negro dance, but became very popular among the chic, white visitors of dance halls.
