The ruins of one of the oldest synagogues in the world [4th century], were identified by Charles William Wilson. The large, beautifully carved, white bricks of the synagogue stand out prominently among the smaller, flat blocks of black basalt used for other buildings [particularly residential areas] of the city. The synagogue was built almost entirely from blocks of calcareous stone.

De ruïnes van een van de oudste synagogen ter wereld [4e eeuw], werden geïdentificeerd door Charles William Wilson.
