Issued on the occasion of the Silver Jubilee (25 Years) of the Kingship of Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom. Cancellations: DYDD CYHOEDDIAD CYNTAF & JIWBILI ARIAN. The Talyllyn Railway (Welsh: Rheilffordd Talyllyn) is a narrow gauge railway in Wales running 11.67 km from Tywyn, on the Mid-Wales coast, to Nant Gwernol near the village of Abergynolwyn. Opened in 1865 to carry slate from the quarries at Bryn Eglwys to Tywyn, the line was the first narrow gauge line in Britain legally authorized to carry passengers by steam transport. Despite serious lack of investment, the line remained open and in 1951 became the world's first railway to be preserved as a "heritage track" by volunteers.
