In a limited selection of images, this volume aims at uncovering and reflecting the beauty of the early photographs, veiled mostly by their aura of nostalgia, and deals essentially with Jewish photography in the land of Israel from the early work of the first pioneers at the end of the 19th century and until the present, a topic which has not as yet been approached in a thorough study covering the entire period. Thus far, research on the history of photography in the land of Israel has been limited to a handful of publications and this book is only a preparation for a deeper and more thorough investigation of the subject and a detailed survey of the still uncharted territory which is photography in Eretz Israel.
