Original six-panel editorial cartoon in ink on card published in The News, Adelaide, 1976, shows the odds on the forthcoming US presidential election fluctuating in response to the intense media attention on the candidates Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter. Carter’s odds fall for instance when he admits to having read Playboy magazine (in fact he gave an interview to Playboy in which he stated: “I've looked on a lot of women with lust. I've committed adultery in my heart many times”, which caused a media sensation). In the cartoon the election ends up as a ‘sweep’, and one of the candidates is drawn ‘out of a hat’. There was perhaps not a lot to choose between them, although Carter did win in the end. Card size 45 x 27 cm (17.5 x 10.5 inch), image size 36 x 21 cm, signed lower right. Dated Thursday November 2nd in bottom right corner of the border. In very good condition.
