Catalogue information
Less than forty years ago, most of the freight transport in the Netherlands went by water, with sailing ships. However, skippers and their art of studing are in danger of being lost. It is therefore interesting to let the skippers of that time have their say, in order to try to capture as much as possible from the past period. An important aspect of the documentary character of the book are the illustrations. Research in old photo archives and picture postcard collections has made it possible to revive some of the beauty of these ships and their characteristic appearance in the Dutch landscape. An important contribution to the history of Dutch inland shipping and also a fascinating "document humain". Richly illustrated in black and white (sepia)
