Original editorial cartoon on card in pen, ink and crayon, c.1937, syndicated to a number of newspapers, shows a mother covering the ears of her rather startled looking son as the radio announces ‘and now we will hear an impromptu speech by the president’. Many Republicans hated President Franklin D. Roosevelt so much that they refused to speak his name (calling him ‘that man’), and would certainly not allow their children to listen to anything he had to say. Card size 38 x 28 cm (15 x 11 inch), image size 31 x 26 cm, signed lower left with nine zeros as underline. In very good condition.
