Original political cartoon on card in pen and ink, published in the Eastern Daily Press, 1974, shows a French voter being pulled to the right and left by the contenders in the French Presidential election of 1974. On the Left, the Socialist Party (PS) led by François Mitterand, the French Communist Party (PCF), and the Movement of Left Radicals (MRG) campaigned for the ‘Common Program’ while the right was represented by Giscard d’Estaing and Jacques Chaban Delmas. The opposing sides are polarized and there is no representative of the ‘middle ground’. Giscard d’Estaing eventually won the election from Mitterand by the narrowest of margins. Card size 30 x 24 cm (12 x 9.5 inch), image size 28 x 21 cm, signed lower right, typed caption in lower border. In very good condition.
