Original editorial cartoon on board in pen and ink, published in the London Evening News, 1937, as one of the ‘London Laughs’ series, shows a woman crashing her car into a shop front during the ‘Great Winter Sale’, and the waiting bargain hunters screeching ‘Hi! Look! That’s not fair...cheating’. In 1937 the January sales did begin in January, but the interest in them was the same as it is today. Board size 53 x 38 cm (21 x 15 inch), image size 40 x 30 cm, signed lower right, typed caption pasted on in lower border and dated 31-12-37, numbered 1100, corner edges broken away and some staining along borders and in the image, otherwise in good condition.
