Original drawing on paper in pen and ink, around 1963, possibly published in the Saturday Evening Post or the New York Times, of Einar Gerhardsen. Drawing on white paper is pasted onto a larger piece of paper which states on verso: ‘Kroll Karicature Service, Einar Gerhardsen, Premier, Norway’, and a stamped New York address. Gerhardsen was an important figure in post-war Norway, serving as Labour prime minister in three ministries between 1945 and 1965. Kroll, who left Germany in 1933 when the Nazis came to power, became a ‘celebrity caricaturist’ in the USA who drew caricatures of thousands of public figures in America and around the world. Paper size 15 x 10 cm (6 x 4 inch), image size 9 x 6 cm, signed lower left. In good condition.
