Portrait of Willem Bilderdijk (1756-1831) on his deathbed. Bilderdijk was a lawyer, poet, linguist, Member of the Second Class (1808). He sometimes produced the illustrations himself for his books. He probably never entered into legal marriage with his second wife; the divorce with his first wife was not pronounced until 1802.
