Details
Original drawing on paper in pen and ink, around 1961, possibly published in the Saturday Evening Post or the New York Times, of Dr Cheddi Jagan who was Premier of British Guiana from 1961 to 1964, prior to independence. He later served as President of Guyana from 1992 to 1997. He is widely regarded in Guyana as the ‘Father of the Nation’. Drawing on white paper is pasted onto a larger piece of paper which states on verso: ‘Kroll Karicature Service, Dr Cheddi Jagan, Prime Minister of British Guiana’, and a stamped New York address. Kroll, who left Germany in 1933 when the Nazis came to power, became a ‘celebrity caricaturist’ in the USA who drew caricatures of thousands of public figures in America and around the world. Paper size 16 x 10 cm (6 x 4 inch), image size 10 x 6.5 cm, signed lower left. In good condition.
