Original pen and watercolour editorial cartoon on card published in the Omaha World Herald, December 2010, shows the Russian bear and Uncle Sam on the starting line for the ‘Start Treaty’ (Strategic Arms Reduction Talks). After previous successes in reducing nuclear weapons, Russia and USA appear at the starting line for a fresh round of negotiations following the expiry of START I in 2009. The USA and the Russian Federation signed the ‘New Start’ treaty in April 2010 but, as the cartoonist points out, other countries with nuclear weapons such as India and Pakistan, and those suspected of trying to develop nuclear weapons (N. Korea), are not involved. Card size 28 x 21.5 cm (11 x 8.5 inch), image size 24.5 x 16 cm, dated Dec. 23 in lower border and signed upper left. In excellent condition.
