Original editorial cartoon on Strathmore board in pen/brush and ink, published in the Omaha World Herald, 1994, shows Father Time recording the history of national and international conflicts in Cuba, Rwanda, Haiti, Bosnia and China as a dove with olive branch brings a message confirming an ‘IRA Cease-Fire’. After waging a 25-year campaign of bloodshed and terror, the Provisional Irish Republican Army declared that it was ready to abandon warfare in favour of peace talks on the future of Northern Ireland. Another dove suggests: ‘though I wouldn’t use permanent ink just yet...’, and indeed this particular cease-fire ended in February 1996. Card size 38 x 28 cm (15 x 11 inch), image size 30 x 22 cm, signed and dated lower left, caption in lower border. In excellent condition.
