Original editorial cartoon on card in pen/brush and ink, published in the Omaha World Herald, 1995, shows a tank labelled "Yeltsin" with a tangled barrel labelled ‘military command’ pointing back at the tank. This refers to the War in Chechnya, a conflict between the Russian Federation and the Chechen Republic of Ichkeri, fought from December 1994 to August 1996. Some in the government and the military command criticized Yeltsin, and the cartoon is suggesting they might turn against him. During the course of 1995 Chechen guerrilla warfare tactics caused widespread demoralization of Russian federation forces and the almost universal opposition of the Russian public to the conflict. This led Yeltsin's government to declare a ceasefire with the Chechens in 1996 and sign a peace treaty a year later. Card size 38 x 28 cm (15 x 11 inch), image size 31 x 22 cm, signed and dated lower right. In excellent condition.
