Original two-panel editorial cartoon on card in pencil and ink, published in the Nashville Banner, 1969, shows a hippie-like figure representing ‘mob demonstration’ for ‘Peace now! Stop the draft! Get out of Vietnam’ The cartoonist wonders ‘what do you suppose one would look like with a shave and a haircut?’, which reveal the communist hammer and sickle. Hippies, draft dodgers and war protestors who took part in anti-war demonstrations during this troubled period are thus unmasked as communist agitators. Framed and matted for an overall size of 44 x 35 cm (17.25 x 13.75 inch), image size 34 x 25 cm, caption in pencil upper left, signed in lower right corner. In excellent condition.
