Original Czech political/propaganda cartoon done on card in pen/brush and ink/crayon, published 18 June 1949 in ‘Rude Pravo’ (Czech communist newspaper), shows General George Marshall and US secretary of state Dean Acheson holding two sheets, one with ‘Marshall Plan’ and one with ‘North Atlantic Treaty Organization’, the whole arrangement looking rather improvised. In the meantime a truck representing ‘hospodarstvi USA’ (USA economy) and carrying an atomic bomb and lots of dollars is breaking up while moving uphill, suggesting that the American economy will not be able to cope with the great demands being made upon it by the Marshall Plan (from 1948 onward) and the creation of NATO in 1949. This did not prove to be the case. Card/Image size 50 x 37 cm, signed bottom right. The actual drawing has been cut out and fixed to a backing card, otherwise in very good condition
