Original editorial cartoon drawing done in ink and grease crayon on card for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, 1940, shows the Democrat donkey tied (seriously tied) to a hitching post in front of the Chicago Convention, where Roosevelt clearly has the nomination race well “wrapped-up”. This cartoon was reproduced in ‘Cartoons by Fitzpatrick’ 1947, on page 122 and ‘As I Saw It’ (1953), page 69. Framed and matted for an overall size of 71 x 59 cm (28 x 23 inch), image size 46 x 39 cm. Caption bottom centre and signed in ink bottom right with date: 12 July 1940. The piece was framed at Noonan-Kocian Galleries (in St. Louis). In very good condition.
