Original brush and ink editorial cartoon drawing on art card, probably 1914, published in the New York Sun, shows ‘Marianne’ fending off the ‘snake’ of ‘German strategy’ and an eagle representing the German armed forces with Rheims cathedral in the background (apparently as yet undestroyed). Although Cesare was against American involvement in WWI, this cartoon seems very pro-French and anti-German. Card size 49 x 36.5 cm (19 x 14.25 inch), image size 43 x 33 cm. Plentiful printing instructions in bottom and right margin, including a note correcting the spelling of "strategy". Signed lower right, In overall good condition.
