Details

Amilcare Santini was born in 1910 near the city of Florence in Tuscany. At the age of twelve he became appretence to the sculptor Colombini who had a great influence in his career. He spent most of his time learning his craft in his studio - at the time he worked with clay he took from the local river - where the material would rest for four weeks until the water reached the surface and the material was marked on the bottom - he could then use it to mold his sculptures into beautiful artifacts. He prepared the pieces by hand using only simple tools such as wooden sticks. Ninety percent of the work was done by hand. He then traveled to Florence and attended university where he was instrumental in developing the process of combining marble, alabaster and resin. This material is then poured into molds made by Santini - after hardening at room temperature, the sculpture is removed from the mold and finished entirely by hand in the very old artistic Italian tradition and style of the great masters of marble passed down through the centuries away. The marble and alabaster can be found in the quarries near Volterra. Amilcare Santini passed away in 1975 and his son Nedo and grandson Alberto Santini are the third generation of the Santini family to continue the tradition of producing these beautiful "artifacts". There are now four renowned sculptors operating in the business. Enio Furesi specializes in classical and religious figurines, Isabella Di Fabio specializes in hand-painted figures and animals, Marcello Salvestrini specialized in Art Deco and nude figures Andreas Kostner specializes in crèche and statues of saints. The artists, along with Santini's original works, carry the tradition of the Santini name known for quality, beauty and craftsmanship over the past eighty years. A. Santini sculptures are some of the most prestigious museum quality lines of sculptures in the world. In fact, nothing comes closer to an original hand-carved marble sculpture than these A. Santini replicas from Italy.
