Dodge introduced the Moncao at the beginning of the 1965 model year. The Monaco was based on the full size Dodge Polara model. It was only available as a two door Hardtop-Coupé with luxurious equipment and powerful engines. The Monaco was supposed to be the competition to the personal luxury cars in the mid price region, such as the Pontiac Grand Prix and the Ford Thunderbird. From 1966 onwards the model was also available in other body versions. In 1969 a complete new design was released. The style was more round shaped and was called ?fuselage? styling. This design was also used for other full size models of the brand such as the Chrysler Newport, New Yorker, Plymouth Fury and Chrysler Imperial. The technical base stayed the same. The 1974 model year presented a whole new and a larger Dodge model range. All of them were named Monaco, the name Polara was dismissed. This range, with a self carrying body, offered the Monaco, the Monaco Custom and the luxurious Monaco Broughom. A police car of the Monaco and the so called ?blues mobile? played an important role in the movie Blues Brothers. After the introduction of a smaller successor in 1977, the production of the Dodge Royal Monaco still went on. 47 parts with 125 decorations: 55 mask sprays 41 tampo prints 9 decals 17 free sprays 3 chromed parts
