Ostende (in Dutch Oostende) is a city in Belgium, located in the Flemish Region in the province of West Flanders. In 2012, it had 71,921 inhabitants. In the beginning, there was an island (Terstreep) in front of the Belgian coast, and Ostend was its easternmost village (Oost means "east" in Dutch; ende is an old form of einde, end, end).
