Fernand Vanderplancke, native of Bruges and once a player at Club Brugge, has been making the trophy of the Tour of Flanders for 15 years now. In his impressive series of exhibitions, the one in 2004 in Oostduinkerke, together with Delphine Boël, is certainly notable, but his work is also highly appreciated abroad. For more than half a century, Vanderplancke has been deeply involved in many disciplines of visual art. The native Bruggeling carps in wood, welds in metal, models and models in plaster. The latter matter is the basis for his bronze statues. And what if it is too cold in his studio? Then he designs medals, commemorative tokens and plaques in his office with the finest engraving material. In 2003-2004 Vanderplancke created an entirely new and own discipline: wood-scissel art, or painting with wood. Art is the lever in Vanderplancke's life. Every form of art gives him satisfaction and with his sculptures he gives thanks for this. A small selection from Vanderplancke's impressive resume: in 1999 he received the coveted "prize from Unesco" and for three years (2005-2008) bronze sculptures of him were on display in the New York Agora Gallery. His works have been shown in Paris on several occasions. Trophies made by Vanderplancke can also be seen in the living room of many cycling gods. More specifically with the winners of the Tour of Flanders, the Three Days of De Panne-Koksijde, the Cyclocross in Koksijde and the Flandrien.
