Vinification The grapes of the old vineyards at Quinta do Vallado were vinified separately in stainless steel. The grapes from the younger vineyards of Sousão were foot trodden in lagares and fermented in the lagares for 6 days. The wines from the old vineyards were then stored in stainless steel tanks during the malolactic fermentation and were afterwards racked to 225 liters new French Allier Oak barriques. The wines from new vineyards after a first racking were immediately stored in similar 225 liters barriques of new French oak. The wine was kept for 17 months on the barriques. Serving temperature 17-18 °C Taste description Full bodied, firm, mature and silky tannins. Mineral notes and a very elegant, persistent and complex finish. Characteristics Wine-food suggestive Information producer In the heart of Portugal's most famous wine region - the Douro Valley - is Quinta do Vallado with 38 hectares of vineyards of which 26 hectares are planted with vines of 60 years and older. Wine has been made here since 1716 and the Quinta once belonged to the famous Portuguese winemaker family Feirreira. The current owners are Joao Feirreira, Alvares Ribeiro and Francisco Feirreira. They make remarkable red and white wines that can be counted among the best in the region.
