Details

The Werra is a series of 35mm cameras with viewfinder or rangefinder. Produced by Carl Zeiss Jena, who primarily focused on lens manufacturing. The Werra is controlled with a minimum number of levers, rings and buttons. This simple Werra has only 1 button, the shutter release, on the top plate and therefore looks streamlined. The lens is a 50mm / 2.8 Tessar. Tessar is often indicated with "T" and Carl Zeiss Jena with Jena for short. This is due to a conflict between the East and West German divisions. But there seem to be examples of Werras exports with both designations. To the left of the lens on the shutter speed ring may be a logo "Q1", which stands for "Erste Qualität". This stood for East German exports to the West. The Werra has a central shutter with flash synchronization. Times B, 1 to 1 / 750sec and X and M setting on the bottom of the camera, as well as a self-timer "V". Rewind lever and frame counter also on the bottom of the camera. Note: The distinction between Werra 1a, 1b, 1c is not entirely clear, but can be deduced to some extent from the serial numbers of the lenses. The first Werra (without addition of a number / letter) was produced as early as Sept 1954.
