Godfried Jan Arnold Bomans (The Hague, March 2, 1913 - Bloemendaal, December 22, 1971) was a Dutch writer and media personality. Bomans was the most widely read writer in the Netherlands for many years. He has more than 60 books and many other writings to his credit. He received little official recognition during his lifetime, at least not in the form of a literary prize. Literary critics are still not sure what to do with him. Bomans became especially popular with the general public through his novel Erik or the small insect book (ten editions in the year of publication 1941) and after the Second World War with the comic Pa Pinkelman in the Volkskrant, and again a little later with his columns on the front page of that newspaper, his plays in Elsevier and his radio and TV appearances. In October 2000, the widow of Godfried Bomans donated his archive to the Nederlands Letterkundig Museum.
